Faculty Internal Research Grants

Annual support of up to $4,500 for the research/creative scholarly activities of faculty is available upon successful, competitive application to Scholarly Research. This support can cover expenses (except for equipment) associated with the faculty person’s scholarly growth activities (preferably peer reviewable). In addition, half the cost (up to $2,000, the other half comes from the department or school) of hiring a contract teacher (or other arrangement) to provide more time for a faculty person’s scholarly growth can be requested raising the maximum grant to $5,500.

Applying for Internal Research Grants

  • Pre-Review of Faculty Research Grant Proposals
In order to enhance the quality of research proposals and especially to provide development and growth for faculty in conceptualizing-planning effective programs in scholarly productivity/research, Scholarly Research, through the anonymous, peer review process, provides an early date for proposal submission. The peer review team will evaluate a proposal, make recommendations for its improvement (or if it is in good shape, retain it for the competitive funding review) and return it to the faculty proposer/s for resubmission by the final due date. This opportunity also raises the bar on the expected quality of proposals necessary to achieve funding. Faculty who elect not to take advantage of pre-review may be at some competitive disadvantage.

The Grants Resource Center (GRC)

The American Association of State Colleges and Universities operate the Grants Resource Center. The GRC interfaces with public and private foundations interested in supporting a wide range of creative scholarships/ research. We have retained their services, making their complete resources available to any faculty member. Log on to American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). Contacts with GRC personnel who can aid and advise faculty on sources of funding and on the quality of a proposal being developed for one of these foundations should be arranged through Scholarly Research. Joe Bradley (bradleyj@aascu.org) is the Andrews University representative.

Application for Significant External Funding

Scholarly Research will become especially proactive in supporting faculty in identifying funding sources and preparing effective proposals for external support. Faculty that have received faculty research grants for the previous three years, or four of the previous five years, must submit a proposal for support to an external foundation. Success in receiving external funding is not required. However, good faith submission prior to the end of this period will be necessary in order to continue to receive internal funding.
